Something interesting.

Hikari Curse
I've been allowing some of my otome game doujinshi to be scanlated. None of it is released yet, but it will be something to look forward to. Yes, even the R18 ones. So people who have been craving things from the more naughty side of the fandom will get some love too. I'm still not sure how I feel about this on the moral level. The reason I finally caved was because I was getting tired of reading the doujins in Japanese. It's good practice, but sometimes when I'm tired and just want a little fluff that isn't complicated, a scanlation starts becoming very appealing.

Keep an eye on Mad Hatter Scans. I've been scanning things for them, and we're becoming quite infamous for Alice series manga, anthololgies, and doujins. They have also made some lovely subs with game graphics for some Alice drama CD translations. There has been some experimentation to see what works best, but things are looking much more smooth now. I think they are the main source for Alice series stuff at this point XD.

Go check out their other projects too. Lots of treasures to be found there, or maybe they just happen to appeal to my personal tastes lol.

Yeeeah. I'm with you on the doujinshi scans thing. I want to scan more of mine just so I don't have to dig them out of the very heavy and awkwardly high box I have them in every time I want to reread them. And having them in ENGLISH well that would be lovely. And then there's a few that just, the story is so good and look how perfectly it fits into the canon and everyone needs to read this for the feels... But then I remember that it's doujinshi and I feel guilty. (That, and breaking spines still sends me in a tizzy.)

...The last couple books I got though have a couple short-y, 4koma type things in em. Those I wouldn't feel bad about doing.

(And this reminds me I need to update my list again. Drat.)

...I don't think I've ever actually stopped and LOOKED at what Mad Hatter is doing either, save for in passing. *cough* Need to rectify that.

Yeah, breaking spines is still the worst part of all. I still don't trust myself to do it. Instead, I know the person from MHS that does the debinding. She lives in the same state as me and has lots of experience with debinding and rebinding. Therefore all my doujins are sent to her for scanning. I don't expect to see them come back in perfect shape, but I think it will be a lot better than if I did it for myself (and I won't feel bad if they DO come back looking good). The only things I scan are my official anthologies. The spines end up a little bent, but it could be worse.

I know what you mean about certain doujins that everyone needs to read. When doujinshi are done very well, sometimes it's sad that there is no one to talk about it with. At least if they are scanlated, other people can have a clue what we're squealing about. I won't try to justify myself, although I'm glad that if a Circle asked for their work to be taken down, MHS would comply. They are good about that.

It's bad of me to say it, but I wanna see your 4-komas~

(Oh yes, it's always nice to watch a friend's doujinshi list expand. I should have updated mine before I started sending some off for scanning. I got a Joker anthology that I can't bear to part with yet XD. Fortunately no one nags me to let go.)

MHS is a good group. For the most part I like how they do things. They never scanlate licensed projects, and they drop anything that becomes licensed. Along with me, I know of two other people contributing Alice manga/anthologies/doujinshi. We're drowning in them by now lol. We even have scan groups that release manga in other languages asking for the raws. In general, I think this is good because the Alice series will become more well known. Hopefully it works out that way ^w^.

oOoOo, thanks for the heads up! Yey for translations! ^^ I have to admit, I can't read a lick of Japanese. But after having played the games (with the use of a translator) plus reading reviews, I can pretty much tell what's going on via poses and knowing the storyline.

Still, it's nice to be able to find out if I have been reading into things correctly this entire time, heh.

Considering it looks like Mad Hatter Scans won't do licensed manga/doujinshi, I don't think there's a moral dilemma. And it's good to see someone taking the time to consider such things ^^

Yeah, having the poses for context is a life saver. Even though I am learning as I go, pictures have saved me so many times, it's not funny XD.

That's one of the things I love about MHS. They have some solid morals. They want people to support the creators when the chance arrives. I feel like as long as the group is like this, we can be a positive influence toward bringing otome games overseas.

The only reason I worry about the doujinshi is because I know it won't get licensed and that the Circles providing them hardly make any money off of them to begin with. They make these doujins out of their love for a fandom. I don't want to spit on that. It would make me feel better if I had enough knowledge to be able to contact the Circles to ask for their permission first.

Also, I don't know if you ever took an interest in Black Wolves Saga, but eventually MHS will release a couple doujin scanlations for that series as well. There may also be some other otome game series doujinshi in the future. We've gotten into a doujinshi craze lol.

Ah, the doujinshi craze, however shall we survive this on top of our fandom already, ;) haha

I've seen only a bit of Black Wolves Saga, and I'm so-so on it to be honest. It doesn't snag my attention as much as I expected. Though it doesn't help that I am not a big fan of that artist.

*nods* It would be best if you could speak with the Circles directly, but at least you are doing what you can, in my estimation. And I'm sure if any of them were to post something about seeking them out first, you would be the first in line. I think as long as you keep your intentions and actions as closely aligned as possible, you don't have to worry so much. Anyone reading your journal or seeing your comments elsewhere online would know that you are by no means trying to do something sneaky or dishonest, that you are trying to spread love of the fandom. I know for myself, I don't have the means to purchase a lot of the doujinshi. This is the only way I have really. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I could, otherwise.

Oh my, I think I got kinda preachy o.O I apologize.

P.S. I love the new journal header you have. That is an awesome Joker/Alice pic ^^

It's my goal to make this fandom grow so big that QuinRose will have to release their games over here too. We will survive and conquer! XD

To tell the truth, I don't care for the Black Wolves Saga art either. Actually, I don't mind the coloring style, it's the lines that bug me. I got hooked because of the story and the characters.

I might try to see if I can get anybody interested in working on some Okashi na Shima no Peter Pan doujin and anthologies. Last time I checked, the main translator wasn't interested, but there are other translators now that might take me up on it. If I get too desperate it may become a personal project.

Don't worry, you don't sound preachy. I like to hear the opinions of others. Sometimes they think of things in ways I never would have on my own.

Thanks for the compliment on my new banner. I try not to appear too biased, but...I AM. Why hide it at this point? lol
